The Institute comprises two main laboratories
Although the two sites are in different parts of England, their research activities are co-ordinated within a single management structure. About 800 staff including 150 visiting researchers and 100 postgraduates - many from abroad - work at Rothamsted Research sites.

The Institute is renowned nationally and internationally for its leading-edge research and for its multidisciplinary expertise and emphasis on interaction across the full range of scientific disciplines. It is this which allows Rothamsted Research to bring a truly integrated approach to crop research.
Projects across the Institute are organised within seven Departments. These encourage novel scientific interactions and give the Institute flexibility to respond quickly to emerging scientific opportunities.
