Open Weekend 2006

Rothamsted Research opened its doors to the public on the weekend of the 30th Sept - 1st Oct 2006 and attracted over 10,000 visitors over the two days, as well as 800 school children who visited on the Friday and gained a preview of the various exhibits that were on display.

Visitors to the event were able to find out about the latest research in areas, such as:

• Why mosquitoes bite some people more than others
• How bees need us and we need bees
• Climate change and the countryside
• The secret life of soil

as well as being able to:

• Take the controls of an electron microscope
• Explore the Rothamsted estate by foot or by bus
• Have a cream tea at the 16th century Rothamsted Manor house
• See the National Collection of willows
