SADIE software is free unsupported software, available for 32-bit operating systems such as Windows95 or WindowsNT. The software was developed using Microsoft FORTRAN Powerstation; it is supplied as a .EXE file and as source code, although you will not need to use the latter to run the program. Most of the programs have some documentation, albeit limited in scope, supplied with the software. Further details may be found in the reprints of published papers referred to in the documentation, which can be downloaded from this site.

Download SADIEShell, the red-blue SADIE for counts software, for basic spatial pattern analysis of a single set of count data and for spatial association analysis of two sets of count data. SADIEShell is a graphical user interface (GUI) that makes it easy to perform SADIE red-blue analyses and manage data files. SADIEShell provides a Win32 (9x,NT) file-management shell. It includes a setup/uninstall routine and a help file. It contains the SADIE DOS 32-bit programs rbrelv13.exe and n_a.exe, designed to run under Windows 9x & NT, and their documentation.
The software comes in two forms. You can
download the full standard version of SADIEShell, or you can download the smaller version - QuickSADIE. QuickSADIE, a 'set & forget' program featuring 'drag & drop' file handling, is a single-window version for experienced users, most useful for running multiple SADIE analyses at once.

Kelvin Conrad

All shells to run SADIE are written by my colleague, the ecologist Kelvin F. Conrad. Kelvin works at Rothamsted and has done excellent work recently on the Garden tiger moth, Arctia caja. He now is working on more moth data from the Rothamsted Insect Survey, supported by a grant from the Esmee Fairburn Trust. Unlike me, he is a real ecologist, as you can see from the net and the hat. Some of his earlier work was on dragonflies, and you can see some of his excellent photos of these on Kelvin's website, which is well worth a visit. Kelvin has much software that he gives away freely, the collection going under the name of Squirrel Dance Software. Alternatively, contact Kelvin by email.
You can download most SADIE programs from the Squirrel Dance section at Kelvin's website.

Download Quick Association Analysis Shell, for SADIE spatial association analysis of two sets of count data. Quick Association Analysis Shell is another graphical user interface (GUI) from Kelvin Conrad (see above). This is a single-window version for experienced users, most useful for running multiple SADIE association analyses at once. It provides a Win32 (9x,NT) file-management shell that includes a setup/uninstall routine and a help file. It contains the SADIE DOS 32-bit program n_a.exe, designed to run under Windows 9x & NT, and its documentation. Click here to download Quick Association Analysis Shell now.

Download SADIE Tools, a collection of four utilities written by Kelvin Conrad to assist with SADIE spatial pattern and spatial association analyses. The four utilities are:
1.Associaton Extractor: Associaton Extractor extracts the section of the file, n_ao7.dat, which contains the local association indices.
2.ClusterShell: ClusterShell is a graphical user interface for clusterxyc.exe (see below for description of clusterxyc.exe, which identifes patch and gap clusters)
3.DOS Watcher SADIE debug tool: This program displays the DOS output from SADIE program execution and will show any errors that have occurred in rbrelv13.exe, rbrelv13np.exe or n_a.exe, or if, in fact, they terminated normally.
4.Results collector: Results collector extracts the section of n_ao7.dat containing the summary statistics and confidence intervals from a spatial association analysis using n_a.exe.
Click here to download SADIE Tools; these are useful to anyone doing frequent, advanced SADIE analyses. The Win32 (9x,NT) shell includes a setup/uninstall routine and help files.

almost new message

If you are sure you don't want SADIEShell, but still want to do a SADIE spatial association analysis, then you can
download the file n_a.exe on its own - but I would personally always prefer to run it under SADIEShell or Quick Association Analysis Shell (see above). The program n_a.exe is the new SADIE software package to calculate the spatial association between two sets of data - finished November 2001. The program n_a.exe is written entirely in Fortran. It is a standalone version of the earlier software from three sources, and computes all that is necessary for spatial association. The software n_a.exe utilises the method to calculate local association, outlined in Winder et al., 2001, Ecology Letters, 4, 568-576. Or you can download a reprint of this paper.

If you are sure you don't want the SADIE Tools shell (see above), but still want to run clusterxyc.exe, then you can download the file clusterxyc.exe on its own. Clusterxyc.exe is a program to quantify clusters. It allows the identification and measurement of the clusters from the cluster indices output by the red-blue SADIE for counts software. Clusterxyc.exe identifes patch and gap clusters, distinguishes units that are on boundaries of a grid, defines cluster centroids and measures distances between the cluster centroids and between the edges of clusters.

Download SADIEM.exe, for mapped data. This is for spatial analysis of a single set of data, where the co-ordinates of each individual are known, as outlined in Perry, 1995, Journal of Animal Ecology, 64, 303-314. Or you can download a reprint of this paper.

Download software to simulate spatial data using SADIE. This enables simulation of a given set of observed data, by constrained permutations amongst the sample units, to yield new arrangements of counts with a specified spatial pattern. These are based on valid but now out-dated methodology.

Download the previous versions of SADIE software to calculate spatial association between two sets of data. These are based on valid but now out-dated methodology outlined in Perry, 1998, pp. 21-33 in: Population and Community Ecology for Insect Management and Conservation. (eds. Baumgartner et al.). Balkema, Rotterdam.
ISBN 9054109300. Or you can download a reprint of this paper.

Download various Fortran and Genstat files that do data handling and other specific tasks.

If you are sure you don't want SADIEShell, but still want to do a red-blue spatial pattern analysis, then you can download the file rbrelv13.exe on its own - but I would personally always prefer to run it under SADIEShell. Similarly, you can download the file rbrelv13np.exe on its own - but again I would always run it under SADIEShell.
