School's Week 20081st - 7th December 2008 & 23rd - 27th February 2009Available for A Level students to visit Rothamsted Bioimaging to gain first-hand experience with sophisticated microscopic instrumentation. This visit will assist with the learning module on microscopes and cells. A project involving observation of plant disease symptoms at different levels of magnification is offered. Please contact Adélia de Paula (ext 2260) for further information.
A Course in Cryo-Techniques for Electron Microscopy in Biological Sciences7th - 11th April 2008This is the third running of the popular and intensive five-day RMS course covering cryo-techniques in biological sciences. This course will teach sample preparation and cryo-microscopy techniques for both scanning and transmission electron microscopy. The focus will be on life sciences and cell biology, but the methods can be transferred to other fields. Participants from both academia and industry who wish to learn new skills or update their knowledge are encouraged to attend. A Course in Cryo-Techniques for Electron Microscopy in Biological Sciences3rd - 7th April 2006This is an intensive four day course covering applications in biological sciences. It will be of interest to those with a research or technical background in life science or cell biology, from academia and industry, who wish to learn new skills or update their knowledge. The Centre for Bio-imaging in partnership with Gatan UK and Jeol UK is a state-of-the- art facility for cryo electron microscopy. It is equipped with both scanning and transmission electron microscopes. Techniques covered will include rapid cooling, freeze substitution, cryo-sectioning, thin film TEM and cryo-transfer and freeze fracture cryo-SEM. Attendees will have the opportunity use state of the art equipment and instrumentation from a range of manufacturers. Tutorials, demonstrations and hands-on practical sessions will be led by technical experts form Gatan, Leica, Diatome and Jeol. Keynote speakers will supplement the techniques taught.
